Brief Expedition objectives:

List a short summary of the main Expedition objectives.

Continue the exploration and mapping of the currently 9885m long resurgence system Pozo Azul, of which 9135m of diving is required to reach the end point, which is Sump 4.
How can the GPF support your Expedition?:

Please explain the aspects of the trip which make it eligible for Ghar Parau funding.

Detailed description of objectives:

Give a more detailed account of the purpose of the trip, including any particular known caves you intend to visit, specific areas where you will explore for new cave, and scientific experiments you will attempt.

Continue the exploration and map in Sump 4, which is the current limit at close to 10km from the entrance, and beyond 9135m of diving. This is currently the longest cave diving penetration in the world.
Logistics here will require removal of drysuit and donning of wetsuits several times to transport the required equipment to S4. This is due to the sharp nature of the passage.
Carry out detailed survey of dry passage (Razor Passage) between Sumps 3 and 4.
Use radio location device to accurately locate the dry chamber -Tipperary to a surface location.
Potentially also move radio location device forward to Razor Passage and carry out radio location.
Use electronic mapping device to gather further data from the underwater sections of the cave.
Photograph Razor Passage.

Expedition Finances

Travel

Travel plans:
Travel by van/car/truck via Tunnel or Ferry to France then drive down to Spain.
Due to the large and heavy nature (750kg+ per diver) of the essential equipment required for this exploration, this is the only feasible method of transport.
2009/10/11 costs were £5-600 per vehicle, including fuel, ferry and toll costs, from UK to Spain.
This is expected to be more in 2013, due to fuel price rises + VAT increases across Europe.Possibly £600-650
Direct ferry from UK to Spain is more expensive (£800-1000)than the above method in the peak season. It is also not as flexible for last minute, minor change of
plans.
Transport - 4 vehicles ( 4 x 650) £2600
