Brief Expedition objectives:

List a short summary of the main Expedition objectives.

(i) Continuation of exploration & survey of the cave PT4, following on from 2009. (ii) Exploration and survey of nearby caves, newly-discovered in 2009. (iii) Continuing exploration of the surrounding area.
How can the GPF support your Expedition?:

Please explain the aspects of the trip which make it eligible for Ghar Parau funding.

The expedition intends to continue to develop its contacts with SOB, and with local cavers in Kotor, Montenegro. In addition to making this a joint expedition, their assistance with local inhabitants and government bodies will be invaluable, as was proved last year. There could be about 3 from SOB, and 4 from Kotor. We also plan to co-ordinate our exploration with the Slovenian club JK Krka.
Detailed description of objectives:

Give a more detailed account of the purpose of the trip, including any particular known caves you intend to visit, specific areas where you will explore for new cave, and scientific experiments you will attempt.

In 2009 the depth of the principal objective PT4 was successfully increased to an estimated 400m, and an active streamway was reached, the first underground water course to be discovered in this area. It is still draughting strongly, and has the characteristics of a major system. We intend to extend the survey and improve the photographic record of the cave. Other open shafts were discovered in 2009 and these will be explored in the hope that they will connect to PT4.
Previous work in this area:

Give details of any previous work in this area by your own and other teams. Include references to reports and articles published on the area, and the names of any local cavers or academics with whom you have discussed the Expedition.

The cave PT4 was located and partially descended by the Belgrade caving club SOB in 1999. Further exploration by SOB in 2000 and 2004 increased the depth to ~230m. In 2009, in addition to exploration by our British team, a team from the caving club JK Krka, Slovenia, also visited and surveyed the cave.
