Brief Expedition objectives:

List a short summary of the main Expedition objectives.

Contined exploration of the resurgance cave - Culiembro in the Picos. Exploration by cave diving and bolt climbing Progress upstream towards a connection with Xitu and 2/7.
How can the GPF support your Expedition?:

Please explain the aspects of the trip which make it eligible for Ghar Parau funding.

While some team members own their own compressors, these are small 2.5 cfpm units that will not support the whole group for the amount of diving envisaged. The expedition was loaned a larger compressor for the trip last year. Our costs are based on the assumption that this will happen again. If it does not then we will need to hire a larger compressor - costing something like £250/week with transport time will be 3 weeks. With insurance against damage, (estimated at £100) and fuel to run the compressor.
Detailed description of objectives:

Give a more detailed account of the purpose of the trip, including any particular known caves you intend to visit, specific areas where you will explore for new cave, and scientific experiments you will attempt.

Exploration - continued exploration of the 'Round Window' route where in 2009 we left the cave in open passage, overlooking a drop back down to the streamway. Bolt climbing will need to be used as we progress upstream towards 2/7 which is some 500m vertically higher and over a kilometer away. In this branch we'll also dive the sump which we believe connects with Xitu and is 300 horizontal meters away from the Xitu terminal sump.
Previous work in this area:

Give details of any previous work in this area by your own and other teams. Include references to reports and articles published on the area, and the names of any local cavers or academics with whom you have discussed the Expedition.

Cueva Culiembro itself was previously explored by the Northern Pennine club in 1986, 1990, 2000 and 2001. This group had an expedition there in 2009 - this is a follow up trip.
