Further exploration and survey of the lava tube caves of the Odadahraun lava flow in central Iceland.

This expedition is a part of a long standing relationship between the Shepton Mallet Caving Club and Icelandic Speleological Society. The team is experienced in localconditions, and has good local contacts. It also has a good record of publishing results.
Detailed description of objectives:

Give a more detailed account of the purpose of the trip, including any particular known caves you intend to visit, specific areas where you will explore for new cave, and scientific experiments you will attempt.

Complete exploration and survey of caves found on Svartadyngja and Litladyngja lava shields. Photography of Fjarholahellir discovered in 2005, and further exploration of the area around this cave in (hopefully) better weather. Attempt to link two caves discovered at Braedrafell. Attempt ot locate caves noted by non-cavers near Herdubreidarlindir.

Major expedtion to the Ódáðahraun by same team in August 2005 surveyed 5.5km of cave, split between this flow and Reykjanes Peninsula. Reconnaissance trip to Svartadyngja July 2006. No previous serious speleological resaerch in the area.

Flying Gatwick/Keflavik. Using hired vehicles to reach expedition area (2 days driving). Accommodation in mixture of mountain huts and lightweight bivouacs.
